High-school teacher West Connors struggled to put the pieces of his heart back together after the sudden departure of his best friend, Blake Thomas, from his life ten years ago. While loves have come and gone, West has never quite filled the hole in his heart Blake left behind.
Blake Thomas gets things done. As a handler for one of the top political fixers in the business, he focuses on work, friends, and one-night stands. He’s fooled himself into thinking he’s conquered the demons of his past until he runs into the best friend he was forced to leave behind when he was sixteen.
When their jobs force them into a fake relationship, Blake learns something about his childhood best friend and eventually about himself.
As they try to repair their damaged friendship, they find that moving forward can sometimes lead you back home.
I really don’t know where to start with this review, This author was a new to me and new author this time last year and totally blew me away with her first book Taylor Made. Since then I’ve devoured all of her books. When I learned that she was writing a MM novel I was quite anxious as I wanted to read it but I’d never read in this genre before.
Let me tell you I LOVED this book. I think fact that Blake and West were childhood friends added a lot of depth and connection to the characters and the story had so much more to it than the sexual aspect which I was relieved when the book wasn’t full of MM sex.
In addition the sex was hot, I never thought that relations between two guys would be, but it was off the charts and really brilliantly written and executed and didn’t feel dirty in the slightest, in fact it was very sensual and beautiful which totally blew me away.
Expect the unexpected when reading this book, its got lots of facets from suspense, romance, friendship and more importantly a guy who needs to find himself and find himself worthy to let his best friend have his heart.
All of KJ’s characters from her previous books make an appearance at some point and I love that but whereas I’d say its good to know the back story to the other characters you don’t need to read the books to enjoy this one.
My enjoyment of this book lies solely in the hands of the author as she really brought these guys to life and made me fall in love with them, her writing is so engaging and fresh and she always brings that something more to her books which for me makes them stand out from the crowd.
I would totally recommend this book. Definitely for those who are fans of the genre and those like me who were on the fence.
